And Now For Something Completely Different...

Last weekend in Australia was the release of the Nintendo 3DS game, Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I had been anticipating this games release for so long, having enjoyed the original DS version, simply called, Animal Crossing, years ago. So, this past week, when I haven't been working on making books, I have been spending some time (a lot) playing New Leaf.

It really is such a beautiful game where you are the Mayor of your own little town. As the Mayor of this town, you must make sure your residents are happy by chatting with them and carrying out small tasks for them. You must also perform Public Works for your town in order to make your town thrive and become a become a happier place to live. You can plant flowers and trees of many different varieties (and I mean MANY). You can go fishing, and it depends on you whether you want to sell your catches, or donate them to the town museum. Again, there are so many different species of fish to catch, and don't get me started on the varieties of beetles, bugs and butterflies you can also catch! The game works in real time and the seasons change in real time, and the moon cycles are real time too. There are special calendar events such as, fishing tournaments, bug catching tournaments, Halloween challenges on October, snowman challenges in Winter, and so much more. Special guests visit your town, you can upgrade your shops and your home, customise your appearance, the list just goes on and on! I could be here all day explaining the intricacies of the game, but I really suggest that you go out and buy yourself a copy and discover just how truly wonderful this game really is.

This is my character in front of her little home. You can fully customise your home and buy furniture, carpet and wall paper. There are many different furniture sets you can collect and buy for your home. The possibilities are endless. You can also customise the outside of your home by choosing different fences, letter boxes, doors, and exteriors for your house.

You can customise your appearance by purchasing various items of clothing and accessories. Again, the possibilities are endless. You can even design your own clothes!

There are many residents in your town. The happier your town is, more residents will move in. Each one has its own personality and they will all require your assistance and advice throughout the game. Depending on your responses to your residents, depends on whether they choose to remain in your town, or leave.

Special visitors will come to your town to give advice, sell you special items, hold special events and more.

Another added feature is that you can link up with your friends using wifi, or over the internet. They can come and visit your town, catch fish in your town, pick fruit from the trees in your town and visit your residents. In turn, you can also visit their towns and do the same. Anything you catch or find in their towns, you can take home with you. There is even a special island you can visit together (or on your own) where you can play games and earn medals. Like I said, I could literally be here all day explaining everything about the game (and there is still so much I am yet to discover). So, go out and grab yourself a copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf on the Nintendo 3DS. I promise you, you'll be hooked in no time. A game for any age, you're sure to enjoy every aspect of it. I just adore this game in every way!
